Charlie Boy Claps Back at Gay Rumours: “Embracing Your Feminine Side Doesn’t Make You Less of a Man”
Veteran Nigerian entertainer Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charlie Boy, has responded to fans who have continued to question his sexuality.
In a recent post on Instagram, the 73-year-old singer addressed the long-standing rumours labeling him as gay, saying many Nigerians are still close-minded when it comes to self-expression.
“For years, many have questioned my sexuality, some have openly called me gay. Anything una like make una talk, because I know for many Nigerians, they are still living under the rock,” he wrote.
Charlie Boy, who is famous for his unconventional fashion, lifestyle and bold personality, said embracing one’s feminine side does not reduce one’s manhood. He noted that it only makes one more complete as a human being.
“Embracing ones feminine side isn’t about becoming less of a man—it’s about becoming more of a human being. It’s about having access to the full spectrum of human experience: strength and vulnerability, logic and intuition, independence and connection. If u know u know. I no send ur father,” he added.
Reflecting on his journey, the Area Fada recalled that even his late father initially disapproved of his style and persona. He said wearing earrings decades ago was seen as shocking at the time, but he has since learned to live with public judgement.
Over the years, Charlie Boy has remained unapologetic about his lifestyle and has often spoken openly about his personal life in interviews.
