Obasogie Eyes More Glory As He Returns To Bendel Insurance
Super Eagles goalkeeper, Amas Obasogie, has expressed his delight and hunger for success after sealing a return to Bendel Insurance ahead of the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League season.
Obasogie, who previously spent two seasons with the Benin Arsenal following their NPFL comeback in 2023, is back on a one-year deal after stints abroad with Ethiopian side Fasil Kenema in 2024/25 and Tanzanian club Singida Black Stars last season.
Announcing his return on Instagram, the shot-stopper said:
“Back to where part of my journey began. Sometimes, life takes you away so you can grow, learn, and become stronger. Today, I’m grateful for the opportunity to return to my former team—not just as a player, but with more experience, hunger, and determination. I’m ready to give my all for the badge, the team, and the supporters. Back home, back to work. Let the journey continue.”
The goalkeeper was a key figure for Insurance during their fairytale return to the top-flight. He was instrumental in the club’s historic 21-game unbeaten run in the 2023 abridged league season, keeping eight clean sheets, and his penalty-saving heroics helped the team end a 43-year trophy drought with a 1-0 win over Enugu Rangers in the 2023 President Federation Cup final.
In the 2023/24 season, Obasogie set a new NPFL record with 18 clean sheets before moving abroad.
Though yet to make his senior debut for Nigeria, he has been a regular in the Super Eagles setup since November 2023 and was part of the squad that finished third at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
