La Liga: Barcelona, Atlético Madrid in Heated Standoff Over Julián Álvarez
The battle for Julián Álvarez’s signature has intensified, with Barcelona and Atlético Madrid issuing conflicting statements over the Argentine striker’s future.

Barcelona President Joan Laporta has openly declared that the Catalan giants are still pushing to sign Álvarez this summer.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Laporta said on Wednesday that Barça remain keen on the Atlético forward and are waiting for their offer to be accepted.

“We are still very interested in Julián Álvarez,” Laporta stated, adding that Barcelona have the “utmost respect for Atlético de Madrid.”

In a direct message to the Madrid club, Laporta said: “If they are willing to sell Julián Álvarez during this summer transfer window, we would be ready to buy him,” if both clubs can agree on terms.

Laporta also disclosed that he personally reached out to Atlético CEO Miguel Ángel Gil Marín to confirm Barcelona’s proposal, noting that both boards have known each other for years.

He insisted that Barcelona’s bid is still on the table after receiving information that Atlético might be open to selling. “It’s clear that our offer remains valid until the end of the market,” he said.

Atlético Madrid, however, have hit back with a strong rejection, ruling out any deal with Barcelona.

In an official response, Atlético claimed they are the real victims in the saga. “The player is being victimized, but the only victim of the Julián case is us,” the club said.

Atlético accused the ongoing drama of causing serious damage to the club, stating: “They have harmed us economically and socially.”

The club was categorical about Álvarez’s future, declaring: “There is 0% chance of selling him to Barça.”

Atlético stressed that the issue goes beyond finances, insisting: “This situation is not about money, it’s about dignity.”

The Madrid side further alleged that a campaign built on “many lies and half-truths” has been targeted against them, adding that “The only one who pays for this is Atlético.”

The situation now leaves both La Liga giants at a deadlock — Barcelona publicly keeping their offer alive, while Atlético publicly insist their star striker is not for sale at any price to their rivals.
