Olaide Olabanji Calls Out Colleagues Supporting Bad Politicians

Nollywood actor, Olaide Olabanji has slammed some of his colleagues in the entertainment industry for supporting politicians who he says have not contributed meaningfully to Nigeria’s development.

The actor made this known in a video he shared on Instagram on Thursday, where he spoke about the hardship Nigerians are currently facing and the poor state of the country’s healthcare system.

Olabanji lamented the situation of sick celebrities who have to beg for financial assistance online. According to him, if entertainers had been using their platforms to speak truth to power, the government would have been forced to fix the health sector.

He criticized actors who choose to remain silent because of personal gains, which he described as “stomach infrastructure”, adding that the consequences of bad governance will eventually affect everyone, including their children.

He also questioned colleagues who participated in distributing food items like rice and beans for politicians during campaigns, asking what they have achieved with the money they allegedly collected during the 2023 general elections.

In his words:
“Don’t destroy people’s lives because of what you are benefiting from bad leaders. Those who supported bad leaders in the past are responsible for the hardship that Nigerians are going through today.”

“If many of us had been telling our government the truth, it’s possible they would have provided Nigerians with good hospitals by now.”

“Many Nigerians are sick without access to good hospitals, yet you keep supporting the people who are destroying the country. Fuel is now N1,400, yet we keep supporting them.”
He urged celebrities to stop acting like slaves to politicians and start demanding good governance, quality healthcare, stable electricity, good roads, and adequate security for Nigerians.

He noted that while many political leaders travel abroad for medical treatment with their families using public resources, ordinary Nigerians have nowhere to go when they fall sick.
