NBA President Backs Transparency, Faults IGP Disu’s Stance on Filming Police Officers
The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, has faulted the position of the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, on Nigerians recording police officers while on duty.

The NBA President said law enforcement should not be afraid of transparency, noting that accountability improves public trust.
“We should not be afraid of being transparent while carrying out our duties. That’s why the USA introduced body cameras for its police officers. It makes for a better society,” the NBA President said.
His reaction follows comments by the IGP who frowned at the growing trend of citizens filming officers and turning the clips into social media content.

The IGP had said: “Can we come to your office and record you? Can you record in the courtroom? Don’t turn our police officers into content.”

According to IGP Disu, many officers operate in difficult terrains — including thick forests and highways — to protect lives and property, yet they are increasingly subjected to ridicule online. He questioned whether citizens would be comfortable if officers walked into their offices to record them at work, and called for more responsible engagement that does not compromise security operations.

The exchange has triggered mixed reactions online, with many Nigerians supporting the NBA President’s call for openness.

One user wrote: “The only reason they are terrified of cameras is because it stops them from extorting innocent citizens at checkpoints.” Another added: “I align with the NBA president’s view.”
