Fernandez Unfazed By Criticism at Rangers
Super Eagles defender Emmanuel Fernandez says he is not distracted by criticism over his recent form at Rangers, insisting his focus remains on self-improvement.

Fernandez, who joined the Scottish side from Peterborough United last summer, had an impressive debut season that saw him win Rangers’ Men’s Player of The Season award and become the club’s only player named in the PFA Scotland Team of The Season.

However, the centre-back has struggled to hit the same heights this season, coming under scrutiny after Rangers’ poor Europa League qualifying campaign that ended in elimination — leaving the club without European football for the first time since 2017.

Speaking ahead of Rangers’ game against St Mirren, the Nigerian said:
“I don’t really look into what is said about me. I just try to focus on myself and try to improve to be better. Every day I want to be better, and I know when something I’ve done is bad… I’m still growing as a player, and it’s something I know I will improve on eventually,”
He added that the team has been working on concentration and cutting out small errors that lead to goals.

Despite the slow start, Rangers have won three games in a row and Fernandez believes team spirit is improving.
“I feel like the togetherness is getting better… We’re growing, and I still think there’s more to come,” he said, noting that the manager has reminded the squad there are still three domestic trophies to fight for.
Fernandez will be hoping to help Rangers extend their winning run to four when they host St Mirren.
