NAHCON Commends Gov Otu, Describes Cross River as Model of Religious Harmony
The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has lauded Cross River State as a model of religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence in Nigeria.

The commendation was given during a courtesy visit to Governor Bassey Edet Otu in Calabar by a delegation of the Commission led by its Commissioner for Policy, Personnel Management and Finance, Prince Aliu Abdulrazaq.

Abdulrazaq said Cross River was deliberately prioritized in NAHCON’s nationwide sensitization tour because of its cordial relationship with the Muslim community.

“Cross River is one of the first states which we are proud of. I have never heard of any issue of fighting between Muslims and Christians here. I really appreciate the governor for that,” he said.

Also speaking, the Zonal Coordinator for South-South/South-East, Alhaji Amin Ukoha, described Governor Otu’s support for Muslim pilgrims as uncommon among governors in the South-South region.

Receiving the delegation on behalf of the governor, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Anthony Owan-Enoh, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to inclusiveness, tolerance and peaceful coexistence.

He noted that Cross River has always been known for its culture of accommodation, adding that being cosmopolitan is part of the state’s identity.

“If Christians can live peacefully in the northern part of the country, Muslims should also be able to live peacefully here in Cross River State. We are all the same people. We are all Nigerians and human beings. Therefore, what is good for you is good for us. We are one Nigeria,” Governor Otu stated.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Cross River State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Imam Kabeer Olowolayemo, said the visit was aimed at sensitizing the Muslim community on the new Hajj guidelines and appreciating the Governor for his unwavering support.

The delegation also held a meeting with the Special Adviser on Religious Matters, Apostle Frank Umo, who assured them of the continued mutual coexistence enjoyed by all residents in the state.
