Nigeria Produces First Homegrown World Rugby Educators
Nigeria has reached a major milestone in rugby development with the emergence of its first locally-certified World Rugby educators.

The development means the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF) will no longer need to depend heavily on foreign facilitators for technical programmes, as local experts can now conduct coaching and refereeing trainings within the country.

World Rugby East and Southern Africa Game Growth Manager, Robert Bwari, disclosed this during a technical development programme organized by the NRFF in Abuja.

“I am happy about the level Nigeria has reached in the past years. Now Nigeria has World Rugby educators who can train coaches and referees locally,” Bwari said.

He assured that World Rugby will continue to provide supervisory support as the local educators take over the responsibility for technical growth in Nigeria.

The three-day capacity building workshop focused on coaching, match officiating, first aid in rugby, and safeguarding, and drew about 80 participants from across the country.

NRFF President, Ademola Are, charged the participants to become ambassadors of the game in their respective states.

“Go back and impact your communities because rugby needs you. Without you, rugby cannot make headway,” Are said.

Also speaking, NRFF board member and World Rugby-certified instructor, Wuraola Hussain, said the programme is designed to lay a solid technical foundation for the sport in Nigeria and help take it to the next level.

The federation noted that it remains committed to investing in technical education to expand rugby beyond its traditional bases and improve Nigeria’s competitiveness continentally and globally.
