DJ Cuppy Says She Gets Marriage Proposals Daily, Uses Degrees to Avoid Pressure
Nigerian DJ and entrepreneur Florence Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy, has opened up about how she handles constant marriage pressure.
In a new interview with Marie Claire published on Thursday, the 31-year-old revealed she receives marriage proposals every single day — and not just from fans.
“I get marriage proposals every day. And I’m not even talking about fans. Everyone is apparently trying to help me when I have not asked to be helped,” she said.
Cuppy said her strategy for dodging the question, especially from her grandmother, is her education.
“I call it avoidance of marriage. Every time my grandma asks, ‘Where’s your husband?’, I show her a new certificate,” she joked.
The disc jockey holds degrees from New York University, Oxford University and King’s College London, and hinted she is already eyeing another qualification. She said her love for education comes from wanting to understand the business side of entertainment, not just participate in it.
“With entertainment, I have never just wanted to participate. I want to understand who controls what and learn as much about their processes as possible.”
The billionaire heiress also shared a proud moment with her father, Femi Otedola, recalling how he was once recognised at an airport as “Cuppy’s dad” — a reversal of the usual “Femi’s daughter” tag.
She also spoke about her philanthropy, noting that while charity is giving because you want to, philanthropy is about creating long-lasting impact.
For now, Cuppy says marriage can wait — her next certificate will do the talking.
