Helmbridge at 50: Director Advocates Holistic Education, Strong Character
The Director of Helmbridge Study Centre, Surulere, Lagos, Mr. Wilfred Dieke, has urged educational institutions in Nigeria to prioritize holistic education that builds sound minds and strong character.

Dieke made the call during a press conference held to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Centre. He said education should not be reduced to the acquisition of certificates or technical skills, but should focus on the total formation of the individual — mind, conscience and character.
According to him, the golden jubilee is a moment to reflect on the true purpose of education beyond academic attainment.
“For 50 years, Helmbridge has remained steadfast in its commitment to promoting culture, character, academic excellence and leadership development,” he said.
Dieke noted that while many institutions measure success only by examination results, Helmbridge has pursued a broader vision of raising men and women of integrity.
“Over the past five decades, Helmbridge has nurtured thousands of Nigerians who have gone on to distinguish themselves in public service, the legal profession, medicine, engineering, business, academia and numerous other fields,” he stated.
He added that the alumni have earned respect not just for professional accomplishments, but for their integrity, discipline, commitment to excellence and service to society.
Dieke stressed that leadership is ultimately a moral enterprise and that values such as honesty, selflessness, diligence, courage and respect for human dignity cannot be learned from textbooks alone, but must be deliberately cultivated.
“Their contributions to nation-building demonstrate that character remains one of the greatest assets any educational institution can impart. In every profession, competence commands admiration, but integrity earns trust. And without trust, neither institutions nor nations can flourish,” he said.
