Abuja Abduction: Army Rescues Retired General’s Wife
The Nigerian Army has rescued Mrs Adonkie, wife of retired Brigadier General Basil Adonkie, who was kidnapped from her residence in Abuja.

Mrs Adonkie was abducted on Tuesday, September 1, from her home in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

In a statement on Wednesday, the Army said troops of the Guards Brigade and Army Headquarters Garrison launched a coordinated search operation immediately after the abduction was reported.

According to the statement, acting on credible intelligence, troops tracked the kidnappers through the Aco Estate–Goza Community axis and made contact with them.

“Overwhelmed by the troops’ rapid response and superior firepower, the criminals abandoned the victim and fled into nearby bushes, leading to the successful rescue of Mrs Adonkie at Angwan Sabo Village.”

The Army said troops intensified pursuit along the Aco Estate–Angwan Sayawa axis and deployed additional forces to block escape routes.

In a follow-up operation on Wednesday, September 2, troops intercepted fleeing members of the gang near Gaube village in Kuje Area Council, FCT. Two suspected kidnappers were arrested, and one AK-47 rifle, one magazine and 19 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition were recovered.

The Army added that clearance and tracking operations are still ongoing to arrest the remaining suspects.
