Cross River PDP Guber Candidate Dares Critics: Show Proof of My Criminal Record
CALABAR — The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State, Sir Arthur Jarvis Archibong, has denied claims that he has a criminal record, challenging his accusers to provide evidence.

Archibong was reacting to a viral video circulating online which alleged that he had a criminal past.

He dismissed the video as AI-generated and described the allegation as “ludicrous, deliberately mischievous, vicious and artificially concocted.”

In a statement issued in Calabar, the PDP candidate dared anyone with proof to make it public.

“Let me state categorically that I dare anyone with criminal records against me to make same public or forever remain silent. I am an honest, clean and hardworking citizen of Cross River State in particular and Nigeria at large. I have no criminal records on any matter, anywhere in Nigeria,” he said.

Archibong accused agents of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led state government of sponsoring the video to smear his image, an allegation the ruling party denied. He said the smear campaign was an attempt to check his growing popularity across the three senatorial districts ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

He maintained that his campaign has been issue-based and devoid of bitterness, while cautioning against damaging personality politics. He also faulted the state government over alleged maladministration and poor infrastructural and human development.

In a swift response, the Cross River State APC Publicity Secretary, Emmanuel Inyang, dismissed Archibong’s claim that the ruling party was behind the video, saying the PDP was not prepared to face the electorate.
