Davis Cup: Nigeria Intensify Preparation for Morocco Clash
Nigeria’s Davis Cup team have stepped up preparations at the Lagos Country Club, Ikeja, ahead of their World Group II tie against Morocco in Rabat.
The crucial encounter is scheduled for September 19 and 20 at the Union Sportive des Cheminots de Tennis du Maroc, Rabat.
Six players are currently in camp – Canice Abua, Daniel Adeleye, Michael Emmanuel, Abubakar Yusuf, Lucky Danjuma and Franklin Jimoh. The team has spent over a week training on the clay courts under the guidance of coach Benson Ishicheli, focusing on fitness and match readiness.
Nigeria booked their place in World Group II after defeating Uzbekistan 3-1 at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club in February, a victory that boosted the country’s Davis Cup ranking and renewed optimism within the team.
Morocco, on the other hand, dropped to World Group II following their defeat to Colombia in the World Group I play-off at the USM Tennis Club Stadium in Casablanca.
Nigeria will be hoping to continue their impressive run in the International Tennis Federation’s premier international men’s team competition as they aim for further progression.
