D’Tigers World Cup Qualification in Jeopardy After Back-to-Back Defeats

Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, have seen their hopes of qualifying for the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup suffer a major setback after losing their second straight game in the second round of the African Qualifiers.

The team fell 82-79 to South Sudan’s Bright Stars on Friday at the Salle Multidisciplinaire de Radès in Radès, Tunisia.

D’Tigers endured a difficult start, trailing by 11 points in the first quarter after South Sudan went on a 9-0 run to close the period 30-19 ahead. Nigeria fought back strongly in the second and third quarters, with Caleb Agada inspiring a 7-0 run that gave them a 48-43 lead with just over nine minutes left in the third.
