Enugu Student Leaders Set For Free Vocational Skills Training
Student leaders across tertiary institutions in Enugu State will benefit from free vocational and skills training following a new partnership.

The initiative is a collaboration between The Potter’s Wheel Foundation (TPWF) and the Council of Students Union Government (COSPEN), Enugu State Chapter.

According to the organizers, the programme is designed to equip student leaders with practical skills, entrepreneurial knowledge and leadership capacity to create additional income streams and prepare them for life after school.

The partnership was announced at the maiden COSPEN Leadership Conference held at the International Conference Centre, Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu. The conference was themed “Leadership without borders: Building a strong network of student leaders in Enugu State”.

Speaking at the event, COSPEN Chairman, Odilichukwu Onuzulike, said the training is meant to complement formal education and bring practical livelihood opportunities directly to students across the state.

He noted that some of the skills can be learnt within hours or a day, allowing students to earn while still in school. He added that the move is part of efforts to redefine student leadership beyond campus politics into entrepreneurship, public service and responsible citizenship.

Onuzulike stressed that student leadership should serve as preparation for future roles in government, business and community development, not end with SUG tenure.

In his remarks, the Secretary to the Enugu State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, represented by Edeani M. Edeani, charged student leaders to see themselves as future policymakers, entrepreneurs and nation-builders. Member representing Ezeagu Constituency, Chima Obieze, also harped on responsible leadership and service.

The conference also featured panel discussions on entrepreneurship, personal development and drug abuse, with inputs from entrepreneurs and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

COSPEN used the occasion to honour Governor Peter Mbah and other contributors to youth and student development in the state.
