The Federal Government has completed the payment of presidential rewards to Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, following their record fifth consecutive FIBA Women’s AfroBasket title.

The National Sports Commission (NSC) on Wednesday confirmed that each player of the team has been paid the naira equivalent of $100,000, while each official received $50,000.

According to the Commission, the accounts of the players and officials were credited on September 9, 2026, and all recipients have confirmed receipt.

In a statement signed by its Director of Information and Public Relations, Kehinde Ajayi, the NSC said the cash payment completes all components of the reward promised by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Presidential Reward package included a 3-bedroom flat in Abuja, a national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), and the cash prize.

The Commission recalled that the players had earlier received title documents for their Abuja apartments and certificates for their national honours in February 2026 during the FIBA World Cup qualifiers in Lyon, France, with documents duly signed by President Tinubu.

The NSC added that the Super Falcons, who were promised similar rewards after their triumph, have also received their apartment documents and national honours certificates during the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco in July/August 2026. The cash component for the Falcons is expected to be paid before their next official engagements.

The Commission said the reward is in line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope and Shared Prosperity agenda which prioritizes athletes’ welfare.
