FG Thanks RCCG for $265,854 Donation to Evacuate Nigerians from South Africa

The Federal Government has expressed deep appreciation to the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) for donating $265,854 to support the evacuation of stranded Nigerians from South Africa.

The donation, which will cover the purchase of 500 one-way tickets, was acknowledged by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement issued in Abuja by its spokesperson, Oluwafemi Adeniyi.

According to the ministry, the gesture by the RCCG, led by Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, demonstrates compassion, solidarity and commitment to Nigerians facing xenophobic and Afrophobic attacks in South Africa.

“This gesture further demonstrates the impact that collaboration between faith-based organisations and public institutions can have in addressing social challenges and advancing the common good,” the ministry said.

The government disclosed that the ongoing evacuation exercise commenced on June 10, 2026, following a fresh wave of xenophobic attacks. Since then, 1,640 Nigerians have been returned home, with 1,385 sponsored by the Federal Government and 255 through philanthropic donations.

The ministry added that 202 Nigerians are currently awaiting final screening by South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs before evacuation, while the High Commission in Pretoria and the Consulate General in Johannesburg continue to assist those who wish to return.

It reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the welfare of Nigerians in the Diaspora in line with the 4Ds foreign policy of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, citing the President’s intervention at the 21st Extraordinary Session of the AU Assembly in Luanda on August 30, 2026.

The ministry also said it welcomes partnerships with private organisations, philanthropists and faith-based groups to support Nigerians abroad.
