Flick Urges Barcelona to Stay Grounded Despite Perfect Start
Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has urged his players to maintain their focus and intensity despite their flawless start to the new season.
The Spanish champions have won all five of their games across all competitions, scoring 22 goals and conceding just three ahead of Sunday’s La Liga clash away to Levante.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Flick warned that the good feeling around the club could quickly disappear if standards slip.
“We know in football things can change very fast. I like that we are enjoying the situation (right now),” he said. “If we change something from this attitude, we’ll go in the wrong direction, and this is what we don’t want.”
Barca’s attack has been in scintillating form, with stars like Raphinha and Lamine Yamal leading the charge. The Catalans hit five against Feyenoord in their Champions League opener, and have also put away Rayo Vallecano, Valencia and Elche in La Liga.
“We’re very happy we are playing on this level but we know that we have to show it in every game,” Flick added. “We know we have huge quality but… when we keep the intensity high, we are focused and we are active.”
While the club’s main ambition remains winning the Champions League for the first time since 2015, Flick revealed that president Joan Laporta is also targeting a third consecutive La Liga title.
“I spoke with the fans, with the people in Barcelona, this year we have to win the Champions League and of course this is a dream for us, this is our objective to win this,” he said. “The president also said that La Liga is also important, and to win La Liga three times in a row, it would be amazing.”
