“I Go Chop My Own Money, Still Chop My Papa Own” – Davido Fires Back At Critics

Afrobeats superstar Davido has clapped back at critics mocking his wealthy background, saying he will continue to enjoy both his personal wealth and his family’s fortune.

The singer made the statement on X (formerly Twitter) amid his ongoing online spat with Nigerian rapper Erigga over family privilege and success.

Taking to his page, Davido wrote: “I go chop my own money .. still chop my pale own .. if e pain you go slap your poor papa.”

The comment comes after Erigga celebrated artistes who made it without family wealth. Erigga had posted: “Shoutout to all the musicians who don’t come from family money and had to grind for every single dollar they earn.”

Although Erigga did not mention Davido’s name, the DMW boss appeared to take it personally, insisting that artistes from rich homes also work hard to succeed. He later described Erigga’s post as “useless motivation” and called him an “imbecile,” which further escalated the exchange.

Erigga in response questioned why Davido felt attacked by a post that didn’t mention him.

The back-and-forth has since divided fans online, with Davido’s latest post sparking another wave of mixed reactions.
