Jamiu Adeniji Shines as Best Boxer at LBHF Ikorodu Championship
Rising boxing talent Jamiu Adeniji stole the show at the Lagos Boxing Hall of Fame (LBHF) Ibile Divisional Championships held at Ikorodu Town Hall over the weekend, emerging as the Best Boxer of the tournament.

The championship, organized in partnership with the Lagos Amateur Boxing Association, featured 10 exciting bouts and lived up to its status as Nigeria’s longest-running grassroots amateur boxing competition.

Founded in July 2009 through the vision and continuous support of former Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, the LBHF initiative has remained a major platform for boxing development in Lagos.

Representing Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, Adeniji faced Wahab Adiat of Ikorodu West LCDA in the men’s 50kg final. The bout was the highlight of the day as Adeniji dominated from the first bell, unleashing precise jabs and sharp uppercuts to secure a convincing 5-0 unanimous decision victory.

His dominant display earned him the Boxer of the Tournament award, to the delight of fans in attendance.

Reacting to his win, Adeniji said the award is a testament to his hard work and dedication.
“I am so excited to be named the best boxer. I know I can do more, and I hope with this kind of performance I can work my way into the national team and represent Nigeria in international tournaments. I must also commend the organisers, and I hope to continue my good form at the end-of-year tournament,” he said.
LBHF Director, David Mohammed, expressed satisfaction with the large turnout in Ikorodu, noting that the Ibile format is gaining massive traction across Lagos’ five divisions.

“We are happy that the Ibile format is pulling crowds and attracting interest across the five divisional areas of Lagos. We expect the grand finale later in the year to be even more competitive and glamorous,” Mohammed said.

The one-day event featured boxers from Ikorodu LGA, Ikorodu North LCDA, Ikorodu West LCDA, Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, Ijede LCDA, Agboyi-Ketu, Ikosi-Isheri and Imota LCDA, with two bouts ending in draws.

In the women’s category, Aishat Yisa of Ikorodu North LCDA defeated Abisola Agbolade 4-1 in the 50kg, while Oyindamola Kuseju of Ikorodu LGA beat Basirat Kelani of Ijede LCDA 4-1 in the 54kg category.

Other results saw Kolade Ojo (Ikorodu North LCDA) defeat Akinola Akingbade (Agboyi-Ketu) 5-0 in the 55kg, Shazilly Hamzat (Ikorodu West LCDA) edge Waris Sanusi (Ikosi-Isheri LCDA) 3-2 in the 60kg, and Kingsley Gabriel (Ikorodu North LCDA) overcome Folagbade Ademola (Ikosi-Isheri LCDA) 3-2 in the 65kg.
