Lady Proudly Embraces Igbo Identity After Being Mocked For Her Accent
A Nigerian lady has fired back at critics who mocked her for sounding “Igbotic,” saying she sees no insult in it.
The woman, who identified herself as an indigene of Nnewi in Anambra State, said she is proud of her roots and will never apologize for her accent.
Responding to the trolls online, she questioned why people admire foreign accents like Russian, Indian and Spanish, but try to bully Nigerians for sounding Igbo.
In her words:
“Do you think telling me that I sound Igbotic is an insult? Me that is an Nnewi and an Anambra woman? And you feel you can use ‘You sound Igbotic’ to insult me? It’s not an insult to me. I’m Igbotic, very proud and unapologetic.”
“You will see a Russian speak and admire it. Same with an Indian. Spanish too. And you want to bully me for sounding Igbotic? I want you to know that I’m an Igbo woman. When you see me, you see Igbo.”
Her response has since generated reactions online, with many praising her confidence and boldness in celebrating her cultural identity.
