Nigerian Envoy to India Vows to Boost Trade, Investment Ties
Nigeria’s new High Commissioner to India, Ambassador Saidu Muhammad, has pledged to deepen trade, investment and business-to-business relations between Nigeria and India.

Ambassador Muhammad made the commitment on Monday while presenting his Letters of Credence to Indian President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.

The ceremony also saw the accreditation of ambassadors from South Sudan, the United Arab Emirates, Moldova, Germany and Sweden, according to a post on the Indian President’s official X handle.

Speaking at the event, Muhammad conveyed the goodwill message of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to President Murmu and described his appointment as a privilege and responsibility to advance Nigeria’s interests in India.

He said his focus will be on attracting more Indian investments into Nigeria, strengthening private sector collaboration, and creating more market access for Nigerian businesses in India, noting that bilateral ties go beyond diplomacy to include economic, cultural, educational and people-to-people connections.

In her response, President Murmu congratulated the envoy and highlighted the strong historical bonds and shared interests between both countries. She described India as a major trading partner to Nigeria and stressed the huge potential to expand trade and investment cooperation, while appreciating the role of Indian businesses in Nigeria’s development.

She expressed confidence that Muhammad’s tenure would further consolidate Nigeria-India relations.
