Nigeria’s Stallions Drawn With Zimbabwe, Ghana, Morocco for SVNS 3 Africa Qualifier
Nigeria’s senior men’s rugby sevens team, the Stallions, have been placed in a tough Pool A alongside Zimbabwe, Ghana, and Morocco for the 2026 Africa Men’s Sevens Series.
The tournament, which will serve as the African qualifier for the 2027 World Rugby SVNS 3 circuit, is scheduled to hold in Kampala, Uganda on September 26 and 27.
To reach the semi-finals, the Stallions must finish in the top two of their group. The eventual winner of the eight-team competition will pick Africa’s sole ticket to the 2027 SVNS 3.
Hosts Uganda headline Pool B, which also features Zambia, Tunisia, and Senegal.
The Kampala event will also kick off the revised 2026 Rugby Africa Men’s Sevens Series and offers Nigeria a chance to make a return to the international sevens circuit.
According to Rugby Africa, eight teams were confirmed for the qualifier after a calendar revision. The tournament was initially billed as a 12-team event in Mauritius but was postponed due to the Ebola outbreak. Uganda was later chosen to host the qualifier, while the main Africa Men’s Sevens tournament remains slated for Mauritius in October.
The winner in Kampala will earn the right to represent Africa on the 2027 World Rugby SVNS 3 circuit.
