The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) and the Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN) have shifted focus to improving coaching standards as part of efforts to grow badminton in the country.

Both bodies will commence a Level 2 Technical Coaching Course for selected coaches and technical officials on Friday, September 4, in Abuja. The nine-day intensive program will run till September 12.

The course, which is backed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), is designed to equip participants with modern techniques in technical and tactical development, athlete preparation, training planning and competition management.

Beyond classroom work, the training is expected to enhance the technical capacity of Nigerian badminton coaches and improve their ability to identify and nurture young talents.

The programme will be coordinated by the NOC Secretary, Abba Ado Gumel, while the President of the NOC, Engr. Habu Gumel, is expected to declare it open.

The initiative is part of a broader plan to ensure that growth in playing talent is matched with high-quality coaching expertise on the sidelines.
