Olympic Champion Tara Davis-Woodhall Survives Head-On Car Crash
Olympic long jump champion Tara Davis-Woodhall says she is “lucky and blessed to be alive” after surviving a serious head-on car collision while heading to training.

The 27-year-old American athlete revealed the accident happened last week, describing it as a “very scary” crash that left both cars written off.

According to Davis-Woodhall, she escaped without major injuries but suffered a severe concussion.

“Luckily I walked away without any major injuries,” she wrote on social media on Thursday. “At this point I’m working with my team and doctors to get healthy, but I’m not sure if I will be ready to compete at Ultimate Championships next week. More updates to come.”

The timing is a major setback for the reigning world champion, who said she is currently at the peak of her season.

“It’s really unfortunate timing; I am at the peak of my training right now. I’m as fast as I’ve ever been. I’m as strong as I’ve ever been. So this decision is very difficult for me. I don’t know where I am right now,” she added.

Davis-Woodhall, who won gold in the women’s long jump at the Paris 2024 Olympics and followed it with a world title in Tokyo, has not ruled out competing at the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championships in Budapest starting September 11.

The three-day event will feature Olympic, world and Diamond League champions competing for a top prize of £111,000 per event.

For now, her focus remains on recovery, saying the experience has reminded her of life beyond sport.
