Speed Darlington Advises Poor Nigerians Against Having Many Children: “Two Is Enough”
Controversial Nigerian singer, Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, has sparked mixed reactions online after advising financially struggling Nigerians to have fewer children.
In a viral video where he spoke partly in Igbo, the singer said people who are not financially stable should be intentional about family size, noting that raising children comes with huge responsibilities.
According to him, people doing menial jobs or living in poverty have no business having four or five children.
“Whether you’re a palm wine tapper or among the poor, you have no business having four or five children. Two is enough,” he said.
Speed Darlington further explained that having one child is manageable, but two is better so that the burden of responsibilities like planning their parents’ burial will not fall on one person alone.
His statement has since generated debate on social media. While some Nigerians agreed that parents should give birth according to their financial capacity, others criticized him for being judgmental.
