Troops Recover and Safely Detonate Terrorist-Planted IED in Zamfara

Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, have successfully recovered and safely disposed of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by suspected terrorists in Zamfara State.

The device was discovered along the Gurusu–Gwashi Road in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement issued on Thursday, August 27, the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, said the operation followed credible intelligence about the explosive.

According to him, troops deployed to Sector 2 of the operation quickly identified the device, cordoned off the area to protect road users, and called in an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team which safely detonated it.

Following the disposal, troops have intensified aggressive patrols in the general area to deny terrorists freedom of action, he added.

The Joint Task Force reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives, securing major routes, and countering the evolving tactics of terrorist groups across its Joint Operations Area.

It also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious objects or movements to security agencies, stressing that timely information remains vital to preventing attacks.
