Valencia Striker Sadiq Umar Ruled Out For 8 Weeks With Hamstring Injury
Super Eagles striker Sadiq Umar has been sidelined for up to eight weeks after picking up a hamstring injury at Valencia.

The 29-year-old forward picked up the knock during training on Monday, just a day after playing all 90 minutes and scoring Valencia’s only goal in their 3-1 loss to newly-promoted Deportivo La Coruña.

Confirming the injury in a statement on Tuesday, the Spanish club said tests showed the Nigerian suffers an injury to the right hamstring region sustained in Sunday’s game against Deportivo.

According to the club, Umar will now follow a medical, physiotherapy and rehabilitation program at the club’s Sports City until he is clinically fit to rejoin the rest of the squad.

The setback is a big blow for Valencia manager Carlos Corberán, with Umar having been a key figure since the start of the season. In his absence, Arnaut Danjuma and Hugo Duro are expected to lead the attack.

The injury may also rule him out of Nigeria’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in September against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau. The striker has not featured for the Super Eagles since November 2024 and recently hinted at considering international retirement.

Valencia will continue to monitor him to determine the full extent of the injury and his exact return date.
