VDM Threatens to Sue MTN Over Dangote IPO Promo Message Sent to His Private Line

Controversial social media activist, VeryDarkMan (VDM), has threatened legal action against telecommunications giant, MTN Nigeria, over an unsolicited promotional message about Aliko Dangote’s Initial Public Offering (IPO).

In a video that is now trending online, VDM expressed anger after receiving an advert for the Dangote IPO on his private phone number. He questioned how his number was made available for the promotion and accused the network provider of using his line without his consent.

According to him, his legal team will be writing to MTN to demand an explanation on how Dangote got access to his private line for advertising purposes.
“MTN, my lawyers are going to be writing to you guys. As my network provider, I will need you to explain how my private line is being used by Dangote. Why am I getting an AD from Dangote? I didn’t consent to them using my private line to do an AD for Dangote. You need to explain or we’re going to court,” he said.
VDM is not the only subscriber to receive the message. Several other MTN users have also reported receiving similar Dangote IPO promotional SMS, sparking mixed reactions on social media. While some users supported VDM’s stance on privacy and consent, others made light of the situation.

The controversy comes amid heavy promotion for the Dangote IPO, which has flooded many Nigerians’ phones in recent days.
