Yakubu Ayegbeni: “My Market Value Would Be €150 Million In Today’s Market”
Former Super Eagles striker, Yakubu Ayegbeni, has said he would be worth around €150 million if he was playing in the current football era.

The former Premier League star made the statement while reflecting on his goalscoring record in England and the huge transfer fees in modern football.

Yakubu argued that the market has changed drastically. According to him, players who score just 10 goals in the Premier League today are valued at around €50 million.

“You see players now, I’m sorry to say, you score 10 goals, it’s €50 million. Ten goals in the Premier League is €50 million,” he said.

The Yak, who was known for his consistency in front of goal, noted that he averaged 15 goals per season in the Premier League.

“I scored every year, it’s like 15, 15 in the Premier League,” he added.

He also referenced his £11.5 million move from Middlesbrough to Everton, insisting that such a fee would be worth over €150 million in today’s inflated market.

“And then from Borough to Everton was like £11.5 million, and that £11.5 million is like €150 million,” Yakubu explained.

The ex-Nigeria international further spoke about the pressure that comes with big-money moves, recalling his £7.5 million transfer from Portsmouth to Middlesbrough.

“It was a lot of pressure to deliver. Big pressure. From Portsmouth to Borough was like £7.5 million, was massive,” he said. “When you’re bought for big amount of money, you have to deliver your best.”

His comments have since sparked mixed reactions from Nigerian fans online, with many revisiting his infamous miss at the 2010 World Cup while others defended his impressive goalscoring legacy.
