Man Utd Transfer Latest: Michael Carrick’s Squad Overhaul Examined
Manchester United are set for a busy summer transfer window under new permanent head coach Michael Carrick.
Carrick, who has agreed a two-year deal with an option to extend until 2029 after an impressive interim spell that secured Champions League football, is already involved in recruitment talks.
According to reports, Brazilian midfielder Ederson is set to be the first of five new signings, with Carrick looking to add three centre-midfielders, a left-back and a striker.
The midfield is the top priority. With Casemiro leaving as a free agent and Manuel Ugarte expected to be part of a clear-out of up to eight first-team players, Kobbie Mainoo is currently the only recognised central midfielder in the first-team squad.
Sky Sports News understands United will sign at least two midfielders this summer, with Elliot Anderson, Carlos Baleba, Mateus Fernandes and Ederson among their targets. The club is also hoping to recoup around £100m from player sales, with Marcus Rashford and Andre Onana returning from loan and futures of several players to be decided.
Carrick’s arrival ends United’s search for a successor to Ruben Amorim. Despite being sacked by Middlesbrough last summer, he boasts the best win rate of any United manager since Sir Alex Ferguson — winning 12 of his 17 games in charge.
