Oborevwori Charges 2,028 Corps Members to Embrace Entrepreneurship, National Unity
Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has urged members of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) posted to the state to embrace entrepreneurship and uphold the core values of the scheme.
The governor gave the charge on Friday at the official opening of the Orientation Course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Issele-Uku in Aniocha North Local Government Area.
Represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Barr. Enodeh Brave, Oborevwori described the orientation exercise as a defining journey that will shape the character of corps members and prepare them for nation-building.
He reminded them that the oath of allegiance is a solemn pledge to serve Nigeria with loyalty, discipline and selflessness.
“Success requires more than academic qualifications. It demands innovation, adaptability, and entrepreneurial skills. The skills you acquire through the SAED programme can empower you to become self-reliant, create jobs, and contribute to economic growth,” the governor said.
Oborevwori, who noted that the NYSC has for over five decades remained a tool for national unity and cultural integration, assured the corps members of his administration’s commitment to their welfare, security, and the improvement of camp facilities.
He also encouraged them to build friendships across ethnic lines and develop leadership qualities.
Earlier, the Delta State Coordinator of NYSC, Mr. John Vandi T. Kwaghe, disclosed that a total of 2,028 prospective corps members — 949 males and 1,079 females — were registered and kitted for the three-week orientation course.
Kwaghe said the course was designed to instill the values of the scheme and thanked the Delta State Government for its continuous support, including the donation of 1,500 mattresses for the new hostel, approval for the renovation of the multipurpose hall, and construction of a new pavilion.
He, however, appealed for quick commencement of the hall renovation, which he said is in poor condition, especially during the rainy season, and also called for the construction of an additional industrial borehole to solve the water shortage in camp following the breakdown of the existing one.
He commended stakeholders including Hon. Stella Okotiti who renovated the mini pavilion destroyed by rainstorm, the Delta State Judiciary for administering the oath, and the Aniocha North LGA Chairman and the Obi of Issele-Uku for their support.
