Tinubu Commends Security Forces Over Rescue of 308 Abductees in Kwara, Niger
President Bola Tinubu has commended security agencies following the rescue of 308 abducted Nigerians in coordinated operations across Kwara and Niger States.
According to the Presidency, the victims include 163 persons kidnapped from Woro Community in Kaiama LGA of Kwara State and 145 others abducted in Niger State. They were rescued from the Kainji Lake National Park Forest in New Bussa LGA of Niger State in what was described as the largest same-day rescue operation by a joint security team.
The operation was coordinated by the National Counter-Terrorism Centre (NCTC) with personnel from the Armed Forces, Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force. President Tinubu praised the courage and seamless collaboration of the operatives, saying the intelligence-led mission shows growing efficiency among security services.
He also directed security agencies to strengthen early warning mechanisms, deepen community intelligence and enhance rapid response to prevent future abductions.
The Presidency said the rescued victims are receiving medical attention at Wawa Cantonment and will be handed over to their state governments for rehabilitation and reunification with families. The Kwara State Government has confirmed the rescue, describing it as a major milestone in restoring peace in Kwara North.
