‘They Respect Me Abroad Because I’m King In Nigeria’ – Davido Speaks On Western Validation
Afrobeats superstar Davido has explained why staying dominant at home matters more than chasing acceptance overseas.

Speaking during a recent Twitch livestream with popular Nigerian streamer and comedian Carter Efe, Davido said the respect he commands internationally is a direct result of his status in Nigeria.
“It’s very important to take over your home… The Western validation is good and sweet, but they are looking at your motion here. The motion I have in Yankee (overseas) is because they know in Nigeria, I am the King,” Davido said.
The singer was encouraging Carter Efe to keep building his audience in Nigeria. Efe had recently missed out on attending American streamer Kai Cenat’s Streamers University after failing to secure a US visa amid stricter immigration policies.
Davido also shared how Jamaican reggae star YG Marley was shocked by his massive fanbase in Nigeria when he visited the country to shoot the video for their collaboration ‘Awuke’.
The conversation comes ahead of Davido’s world tour for his newly released 6th album ‘ORIADE’, which dropped on July 31. The 13-track project sees Davido returning to his Afrobeats roots with African indigenous sounds, and features artists like Leon Thomas, Black Sherif, Aya Nakamura, Mayorkun, Fola, Llona and others.
Unlike his previous five albums which all had 17 tracks, ‘ORIADE’ marks a new chapter in his 15-year career.
