WAFCON 2026: Egypt Captain Ali Says Super Falcons Won’t Intimidate Cleopatras
Egypt captain Mahira Ali says her team will not be overawed by Nigeria’s Super Falcons when both sides clash in their final Group C game at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The Cleopatras go into Wednesday night’s encounter at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat on the back of a difficult campaign, having lost their opening two games to Zambia’s Copper Queens and Malawi’s Scorchers.
The fixture also brings back painful memories for Egypt, who suffered an 8-0 thrashing against Nigeria in their only previous meeting at the tournament back in 1998.
Despite facing the nine-time African champions and defending champions, Ali insists Egypt are determined to bow out fighting and restore pride.
“We know Nigeria are one of the strongest teams in Africa, but we want to give a good account of ourselves,” Ali said in quotes credited to CAFonline.
Kick-off for the Nigeria vs Egypt match is scheduled for 9:00 PM Nigerian time on Wednesday, August 5, 2026.
