Davido Rules Out Politics, Says He Could Win Presidential Election in Free and Fair Poll
Afrobeats superstar Davido says he has the popularity to win Nigeria’s presidential election but will not run for any political office until the country’s electoral system becomes transparent and credible.

The singer made the disclosure during a recent livestream with content creator Carter Efe, where he was asked if he would consider governing a state.

Responding, Davido dismissed the idea under the current system, saying: “Nigeria wey dem dey write result? I no get time for all those ones.”

He explained that he would only consider elective office if elections become free and fair, insisting that no one could defeat him in a transparent contest.
“Let me just focus on my music until there is transparency, then I can go ahead and contest for elective positions. Nobody can beat me in any election, never. In a free and fair election, I can win the presidential election in Nigeria,” he said.
Davido also revealed he is closely watching the upcoming Osun State governorship election scheduled for August 15 as a test of Nigeria’s electoral credibility.

The election is of personal interest to him. His uncle, incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, popularly known as the Dancing Governor, is seeking re-election for a second term on the platform of the Accord Party after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party.

Adeleke will face Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), a candidate said to have strong federal backing. Analysts say Adeleke’s re-election bid is facing challenges including internal defections and controversies over local government funds, but his grassroots popularity and incumbency remain major advantages.

For Davido, the outcome of the Osun poll will likely shape his view on whether Nigeria’s political system is worth participating in.
