Why I Left Obi’s Camp and Returned to APC – Isaac Balami
Former Deputy Campaign Manager of the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council, Isaac Balami, has revealed reasons for dumping the Obidient Movement and returning to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Balami, an aviation entrepreneur and philanthropist, disclosed this during an interview on ARISE NEWS. He said he could no longer remain in a political camp where he saw “no future.”
According to him, he left the APC in 2022 to join the Labour Party because of the party’s Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket and what he described as marginalisation of Christians and minority ethnic groups.
However, he said President Bola Tinubu’s actions in office have changed his perception and addressed many of the concerns that made him leave.
“I just left because there was a reason why I left the APC — two major reasons. I am a Christian from Borno State… But why should I remain in a place where I see no future, when the person I castigated, insulted and fought has proven me wrong?” Balami stated.
Balami dismissed claims that he betrayed the Obidient Movement, insisting his return to the ruling party was voluntary, based on conviction and not personal gain.
He also faulted the Labour Party’s structure during the 2023 presidential election, alleging that the party failed to provide enough polling agents and lacked key electoral documents needed to defend its votes in court, despite his personal financial contributions to the campaign.
The APC chieftain further praised the Tinubu administration for what he called greater fairness to minority ethnic groups since the return to democracy in 1999. He cited local government autonomy, fuel subsidy removal and inclusion of minority communities as some of the reforms that convinced him.
He added that his return was not motivated by appointments or contracts, noting he has not received any since rejoining the APC, and stressed that politics should not be driven by bitterness.
