VP Shettima Proceeds on First Leave Since 2023, Pledges Renewed Commitment to National Service
Vice President Kashim Shettima has commenced a two-week leave — his first since assuming office alongside President Bola Tinubu on May 29, 2023.
The leave, which began yesterday, was approved by President Bola Tinubu.
According to a statement by his media aide, Stanley Nkwocha, the Vice President will use the period for study, reflection and intellectual renewal to strengthen his capacity for continued service to the nation.
The statement said Shettima will review the administration’s ongoing programmes, deepen his understanding of emerging national and global policy issues, and prepare for the next phase of implementing the Renewed Hope Agenda.
It noted that after more than three years of uninterrupted service, the break will allow him to return with renewed vigour as the administration intensifies policy implementation.
The Presidency highlighted Shettima’s role in coordinating key initiatives on economic development, food security, humanitarian affairs, digital transformation, job creation and regional cooperation, as well as his role as Chairman of the National Economic Council (NEC) and as President Tinubu’s representative at major international engagements.
“Senator Shettima remains deeply committed to the ideals of loyalty, duty and service that have defined his role in the administration, as well as to supporting President Tinubu’s efforts to build a more secure, productive and prosperous Nigeria,” the statement said, adding that he will resume official duties at the end of the two-week period.
