Eid el-Maulud: Gov Otu Calls on Muslims to Embrace Peace, Unity
Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu, has urged Muslims in the state and across the country to use the Eid el-Maulud celebration to promote peace, unity, tolerance and compassion.
Governor Otu made the call in a goodwill message to commemorate the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), issued by his Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Linus Obogo.
The governor said the life and teachings of the Holy Prophet remain a timeless guide for humanity, noting his virtues of faith, humility, sacrifice, justice and selfless service.
According to him, Maulud is beyond celebration, but a period for deep reflection on values that strengthen peaceful coexistence and social harmony.
“The life of the Holy Prophet Muhammad remains an enduring testament to faith, compassion, humility, sacrifice and unyielding devotion to the service of humanity,” Otu said.
“This sacred celebration offers us a moment to reflect anew on the profound virtues he embodied—love for neighbour, generosity to the vulnerable, justice for all and peaceful coexistence,” he added.
Otu further urged Muslim faithful to extend love, generosity and justice, especially to the vulnerable and less privileged in the society, stressing that the Prophet’s teachings emphasize dignity, fairness and compassion for all.
He reassured Muslims in Cross River of his administration’s commitment to inclusiveness, mutual respect and religious harmony, saying government will continue to cherish the state’s cultural and religious diversity.
“We shall continue to cherish the rich tapestry of our diversity and promote an environment in which every citizen, regardless of faith or background, can live with dignity, security and a profound sense of belonging,” the governor stated.
He prayed for Allah’s blessings, peace and prosperity upon Muslim families and the entire people of Cross River State, and called on all to make the lessons of Maulud a daily lifestyle.
