Hull City have received a major fitness boost ahead of their trip to Coventry City on Saturday.

Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi has been cleared of a serious hamstring injury and is expected to be part of the squad, according to reports.

The 32-year-old was forced off in the 64th minute of Hull’s impressive 2-0 win over Manchester United at the MKM Stadium on Sunday after complaining of hamstring stiffness, sparking fears of a layoff.

However, subsequent checks have shown no major issue for the defender, same as goalscorer Noah Mendy who also came off with an adductor complaint.

Hull boss Sergej Jakirovic had confirmed after the game: “Ajayi was complaining about his hamstring, and Nobel about his adductor,” noting the defensive changes were enforced.

Ajayi had a memorable afternoon before his withdrawal, opening the scoring in the 17th minute as Hull stunned Manchester United on their Premier League return. He pounced on a rebound after Senne Lammens saved Oli McBurnie’s effort from a corner.

Speaking after the game, the Nigerian defender said: “It was amazing. It kind of capped off the really good start that we had… I’m buzzing to get the goal to get us underway. I’m happy it left us getting three points.”
