18 Teams Set for 3rd AMA All-Stars Unity Cup in Ikorodu
Eighteen teams from Ikorodu Constituency 2 are set to battle for honours as the 3rd edition of the AMA All-Stars Unity Football Championship kicks off on Saturday, August 29, 2026.
The grassroots tournament, aimed at fostering unity, effective communication, and stronger community relationships, held its official draws over the weekend. Organizers also unveiled a new trophy and presented customized jerseys to all participating teams. A brief seminar on the latest FIFA officiating rules was conducted for the teams.
Sponsor of the competition and lawmaker representing Ikorodu Constituency 2 at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Aro Moshood Abiodun (AMA), said football was deliberately chosen as a tool to unite residents and bridge the gap between elected officials and constituents.
According to him, the tournament goes beyond winning, as its major objective is to promote brotherhood and friendship among communities.
“The main reason why we are doing this is unity. I want to unite my constituency, and that is the purpose of doing this,” Abiodun said.
He added that past editions have already helped in addressing some community issues raised during matches.
Defending champions, Makbet All-Stars, are confident of retaining their title, while last year’s runners-up, Nwannedinamba All-Stars, have vowed to go one step further to lift the new trophy this year.
Abiodun also disclosed that the Igbogbo Stadium, which hosted the last final, is now about 85% completed, with major facilities including the pitch and spectator stands substantially finished.
The competition will run from August through November 2026.
