ADC Crisis Deepens in Cross River Over INEC Candidate List
CALABAR — The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Cross River State has been thrown into a fresh leadership crisis following the publication of its candidates list for the 2027 general elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Two rival factions of the party are now laying claim to legitimacy, each disputing the authenticity of the list released by the electoral body.

In a press statement, the faction led by the State Chairman, Dr. John Ogar, rejected the INEC list. Ogar claimed that the candidates emerged from congresses and a convention that had been nullified by both the High Court and the Court of Appeal, describing those listed as “imposters.”

According to him, the matter is currently before the Supreme Court for final determination. He also accused the opposing group, which he referred to as the David Mark-led group, of violating the ADC constitution by operating with an unelected Caretaker Committee and lacking the legal power to submit candidates to INEC.

Reacting, the governorship candidate whose name appears on the INEC list, Amb. Nkoyo Toyo, who is aligned with the David Mark-led national leadership, said the court cases were still subject to appeal.

Toyo said the party is committed to peace and is actively working to reconcile all aggrieved members in the state.

“As the flag bearer, I will say these are matters that have been adjudicated by the different courts and we are lawfully guided by the outcome, as we await further decisions based on the issues that have gone on appeal.

“Additionally, it must be said that we have been open to the reconciliation of various and divergent interests within the party and have taken definitive steps already to build bridges that are paying huge dividends,” she said.
