Bruno Fernandes Says He Voted For Arsenal Player Before Winning PFA Player of the Year

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has disclosed that he voted for an Arsenal player to win the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award, before winning the prize himself.

Fernandes revealed this after being named the Men’s PFA Players’ Player of the Year at the ceremony in Manchester on Tuesday, following his record-breaking 2025/26 season.

According to a video interview shared by the PFA on its official X handle, the award which is voted for by fellow professionals, is a recognition from his Premier League rivals.

When asked who he voted for, the Portuguese midfielder kept the name secret.

“I vote for some Arsenal player. I won’t say it was, but I vote for some Arsenal player,” Fernandes said.

Fernandes described the honour as extra special because it comes from fellow players.

“I think it’s very special. Obviously, when you’re voted by the people that you go against every time and they have to choose one that’s not from their team, it makes it very special,” he said.

The United captain broke the Premier League single-season assist record with 21 assists last season, surpassing the previous record of 20 jointly held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne. He also scored nine goals as Manchester United finished third to secure Champions League qualification.

Speaking on United’s return to the Champions League, Fernandes said the club must reward its supporters.

“We know that we have a history in that competition and for the club it’s something important, for the fans even more. We want to give something back to the fans,” he said.

He also reserved praise for Arsenal, who had three players — Declan Rice, David Raya and Gabriel Magalhães — in the six-man shortlist alongside Erling Haaland and Rayan Cherki.
