Afrobeats superstar Davido has sparked reactions online after hinting that he might soon quit music to focus on building his wealth.

The singer made the statement during a heated exchange with Nigerian rapper Erigga on X (formerly Twitter).

It all started when Erigga gave a shoutout to artistes who rose to fame without family wealth.
“Shoutout to all the musicians who don’t come from family money and had to grind for every single dollar they earn,” Erigga wrote.
Davido, who comes from one of Nigeria’s wealthiest families, disagreed with the take. According to him, coming from a rich background doesn’t mean you don’t work hard.
“No be we say make your pops no guard o. Shoutout to the ones that came from family money and still grind to the top,” Davido replied.
The conversation quickly got heated after Davido described Erigga’s post as “useless motivation” and called him an “imbecile.”

The DMW boss then dropped a bombshell about his future plans:
“No worry o I go soon leave their music for una go make my billions… then that shit gonna be boring AF.”
He ended the exchange with a rhetorical question: “Deep down, who like poverty?”

Davido’s comment has since generated buzz on social media, with many fans debating if the award-winning singer is truly considering an exit from music. The singer has in the past shown interest in business and other investments outside music.
