2027: Opposition Will Unite to Rescue Nigeria — Obi
Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, says opposition leaders are ready to unite behind whoever Nigerians freely elect in 2027 to rescue the country from its current challenges.

Obi stated this on Monday in Abuja at the commissioning of the presidential campaign headquarters of his Allied Peoples Movement (APM) counterpart, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.

According to Obi, individual ambition must not stand in the way of rescuing Nigeria, adding that the opposition is not desperate for power but wants Nigerians to make their own choice in a free, fair and credible election.

“We have a candidate contesting today: my dear brother Seyi Makinde. Is he qualified to be president? Yes. What we are doing today is to show you that, for us, we don’t have desperation. Whoever Nigerians choose, all of us will come together to build a new Nigeria,” Obi said.

He noted that the country is battling hunger, poverty and insecurity, and stressed that whoever emerges genuinely from the polls must be supported to save the country from collapse.

Obi’s appearance at the event was seen as a rare show of solidarity among opposition contenders, as concerns grow that a divided opposition could boost President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in his second-term bid. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is also in the race on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Governor Makinde, who is flying the APM flag with his running mate Daura, dismissed suggestions that his presidential bid should not be taken seriously. He said his “Reset Nigeria” campaign would take its message to markets, schools, farms and communities across the country, insisting that Nigeria’s oil wealth must translate to better living conditions for citizens.

He clarified that he was not calling for a return to the old fuel subsidy regime, but that Nigeria, as an oil producer, should benefit from transparent pricing of crude for domestic refining.

On his part, Bauchi State Governor and National Leader of the APM, Bala Mohammed, said the 2027 election is an opportunity to build a new Nigeria, describing Makinde as a capable administrator who can replicate Oyo State’s progress at the federal level.

“Our motto is Nigeria First. This is an opportunity to build a new Nigeria where everybody will have the opportunity to actualise his or her aspirations,” Mohammed said.

APM National Chairman, Yusuf Dantalle, described the opening of the campaign office as the beginning of the party’s journey to the 2027 presidency, saying the party offers an alternative built on integrity and service.
