Nigeria Can Dominate Africa in Volleyball — Nimrod

The President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation, Musa Nimrod, says Nigeria has what it takes to dominate African volleyball after the women’s national team finished 9th at the 2026 African Senior Women’s Volleyball Nations Championship in Kenya.

Nimrod praised the young squad who ended their campaign on a high with a straight-sets win over Mali, 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-14) in their final classification match at the Kasarani Stadium on Wednesday.

“I’m pleased with the young girls because, as I have always said, they have great potential,” he said.

“It shows that Nigeria is ready to conquer Africa in volleyball. I have seen the potential in these young players, and I’m delighted that they were able to win their match while I was here.”

Nigeria, who qualified as CAVB Zone 3 champions, had finished fourth in their group stage after defeating Ghana and losing to Cameroon and Tunisia. They were later eliminated in the Round of 16 by hosts and defending champions Kenya.

The team bounced back in the classification round, beating Senegal, DR Congo, and Mali to secure ninth place overall.

Nimrod also appreciated Nigeria’s ambassador to Kenya, embassy officials, and Kenyan fans for their support during the tournament.

He also charged the country’s beach volleyball team to step up preparations following their historic Olympic qualification, noting that qualifying should not be seen as the final achievement.
