NiMet Boss Prof. Charles Anosike Emerges as President of ACMAD Board
The Director General and CEO of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Prof. Charles Anosike, has been elected President of the Board of Governors of the African Centre of Meteorological Applications for Development (ACMAD).

Anosike was elected on September 10, 2026, in Cotonou, Benin Republic, during the 24th Ordinary Session of the ACMAD Board of Governors, which was held alongside the 22nd African Climate Outlook Forum (ACCOF22).

In his new role, he will serve a four-year term and provide strategic leadership to strengthen institutional governance, foster partnerships, and advance climate services across Africa in line with ACMAD’s mandate of applying weather and climate information for sustainable socio-economic development.

His election further cements NiMet’s leadership role in Africa’s meteorological community and underscores Nigeria’s commitment to improving weather and climate services for the protection of lives and property, climate resilience, and economic growth.

The election comes at a crucial time when African nations are intensifying efforts to anticipate and respond to growing weather and climate risks under the United Nations Early Warnings for All (EW4All) initiative.

The session had in attendance members of the ACMAD Board and key partners including ACMAD DG Dr Ousmane Ndiaye, Vice-President of the Board Dr Adamou Aïssatou Sitta, Director of the African Union Commission Department of Sustainable Environment and Blue Economy Mr Harsen Nyambe, and Benin’s Minister of Living Environment and Transport, H.E. Georges Alé.
