2027 UTME: JAMB Launches Pre-Registration App, Adjusts Exam Start Time
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced two major changes for the 2027 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
According to the Board, it has introduced a new National Digital Pre-Registration App (NDPA) that will allow candidates to do most of their registration preparation on their mobile phones before visiting accredited centres.
JAMB disclosed this in its weekly bulletin released in Abuja after its Management and Information Technology Retreat held in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State.
Under the new system, prospective candidates can use their phones to research their choice of courses and programmes, check admission requirements and eligibility, confirm their UTME subject combinations, and verify personal information including their National Identification Number (NIN) details from NIMC.
The Board said the app is designed to work on different types of mobile phones, with or without active data, and will have a scanning feature to detect and prevent common registration errors.
JAMB clarified that the app will not replace official registration. Candidates will still need to visit an accredited Computer-Based Test (CBT) or Professional Registration Centre (PRC) to complete verification and official registration.
The Board explained that the initiative will turn registration centres from first point of contact to final verification points, reduce errors caused by rushed decisions at the centres, cut down on requests for change of course/institution, and allow parents and guardians to guide candidates better.
In another decision, JAMB has shifted the arrival time for the first session of the 2027 UTME from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. The examination itself will now start by 8:30 a.m. and end at 10:30 a.m.
The Board said the adjustment was made after public complaints about safety risks and transportation difficulties faced by candidates travelling long distances before dawn. Other sessions will retain their normal schedule.
JAMB added that preparations for the 2027 UTME have commenced and urged candidates to await further official announcements on the full timetable.
