Cardiff’s Principality Stadium Emerges as New Favourite to Save Joshua vs Fury
Cardiff’s Principality Stadium has emerged as the leading option to save the long-awaited all-British heavyweight showdown between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury.

According to reports, the Welsh venue is willing to do what Wembley Stadium could not — accommodate a late-night start to satisfy US broadcaster demands.

The fight, one of the biggest in British boxing history, was on the verge of collapse again after Joshua’s camp insisted on a contractual clause that the bout must be held on British soil. Attempts by promoters Sela to move the contest to Madison Square Garden in New York faced strong resistance.

Broadcaster Netflix, which wants to maximise its American audience, is pushing for a US primetime slot. That would mean a fight starting around 2am in the UK.

While Wembley has strict curfew rules that make a 2am start almost impossible, Cardiff is reportedly ready to sanction the late start time. The stadium — still known to many as the Millennium Stadium — also has a retractable roof, which would be crucial for a proposed November date.

Joshua’s team, led by promoter Eddie Hearn, has maintained that the deal must stay in the UK. Hearn has suggested that any move abroad would require a renegotiation, including a higher purse to cover extra taxes.

Fury’s associate Spencer Brown has insisted the fight is still on, despite fears of another collapse after years of failed negotiations.

Meanwhile, Joshua has returned to training at Ben Davison’s gym in Essex as he awaits a final decision. The 36-year-old had parted ways with Davison after his defeat to Daniel Dubois at Wembley in September 2024, before spending the last nine months training with Oleksandr Usyk’s team in Spain.
