2027: Peter Obi Seeking Service, Tinubu and Atiku Seeking Power — NDC Chieftain
A chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Ibrahim Abdulkarim, has said former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, stands apart from President Bola Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, Abdulkarim said while Tinubu and Atiku are driven by quest for power, Obi is motivated by service.

“You look at these three candidates. What is different between the three of them? Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar, they are looking for power. Mr. Peter Obi is looking for service,” he said.

According to him, Obi is offering himself to deliver the change many young Nigerians believe they cannot achieve on their own. He noted that a lot of political elites know Nigeria’s problems and solutions but lack the courage to act.

“We have seen somebody who has the courage and he wants to do it. And we, the young Nigerians, we said we have to cut ourselves and get a Nigeria that we want through this man. Because if we support him, we are not supporting him; we are supporting ourselves,” Abdulkarim stated.

The NDC chieftain also decried what he described as deep social and economic inequality in northern Nigeria, comparing it to an unofficial caste system.

“In the North, there is an unofficial caste system just like India. The elite and the have-nots are there… some even feel so entitled that Nigeria just belongs to them. So what we really want to do is to liberate our people, liberate the young people, and make Nigeria to be one,” he added.

Abdulkarim said what Nigeria needs is a president who is fair, transparent and accessible, one who regularly communicates government policies and reforms to the people.

When asked if he considers Obi better than other contenders, he responded emphatically: “By far!”

He further said the lessons of the 2023 elections have made Obi’s supporters more politically conscious and prepared to defend their votes in 2027.
